About

I’m  Cecilia Schwartz and I’m a “townie” which means I was raised in town, the city of (San Antonio, Texas to be exact). I have been a farmer’s wife in Garden City, Texas for almost thirty years since marrying my husband James.

Who would have thought that this city girl who graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Restaurant Hotel Institutional Management would marry and move to the farm forty-five miles from “civilization?” No hotels. No restaurants. No grocery stores. And when I moved here, there were… no…paved …roads. It’s an understatement to say that it was a culture shock.

I can still hear my mom telling my sister Christine, “James must have kidnapped Cecilia because no one would move out there on their own.farm girl1

At first it was difficult. James would go off to plow and leave me all day by myself. I was like a little puppy dog when he got home. Ready to play, ready to go, and ready to do something.  But he was tired. He had been working all day and I had been waiting all day just to see him.

That got old fast.

I had to find something to do! I needed something to  fill the void of people of noise of town and of my family. So I started reading. But hated to read.  Seriously. But I wanted to learn how to build things, paint things, repair things and reading opened that door.

When I started, I didn’t have a computer much less the Internet. So when we went to town I would by “How To…” books and read them. Then, I’d purchase a few supplies and follow the directions in the book. Through this process I have learned to make and build almost anything.

I’m  going to blog about a menagerie of topics from DIY to the everyday life of a farm wife. I’m going to talk about projects from making mosaics, gardening fresh vegetables, reinventing metal scraps, and painting easy gifts to cooking and canning.

Or I may just ramble about being my husband’s best and worst work hand.  I’ll give you some insight into my projects from inspiration through my journey and process.  I hope you enjoy reading about my life.  Or learn something at least.

  1. Good Start Cecilia, You may be writing the story of many women that followed the same path. Although most of the women that moved to St Lawrence didn’t have the “extra culture shock” of leaving San Antonio for the wide open spaces of West Texas you have encountered. Good luck
